I’m a physician and artist. I was born in Gujarat, India, but grew up in New Jersey, and now live in Massachusetts in a pretty little town with classic New England charm. In my younger years, I used to draw in charcoal and paint in acrylics, but stopped for many years. I’ve just started painting again now after many years, this time in oil. I find the medium to be very pliable, flexible to work with, and the colors to be very vibrant and interesting . I am mostly self-taught, but in the past year, I’ve worked with a wonderful local artist-mentor named Alexia Rosoff Wilbur who has helped me improve my skills greatly and is teaching me new techniques and how to work with oils.
I’ve been an art lover for many years and have been inspired by many artists. My favorite artists of all time are Matisse, Picasso, Klee, and Rothko. I am drawn to vibrant colors, rich textures, and the geometry of artists’ works. Beautiful art has been a source of wonder and joy for me, and an inspiration to create my own. Another inspiration for me is travel. I love to learn about other cultures and enjoy local art and architecture, and that is often when I’m practicing my photography.
Painting is a meditative experience for me. I paint scenes I love and I enjoy the opportunity to study them in detail over the hours I spend on the works. I hope that others who see the work feel the warmth I put into them.
